Die klinisch-medizinische Auseinandersetzung mit sexuellem Kindesmissbrauch ist ein vergleichsweise junges Phänomen. Erst in den 80er und 90er Jahren des letzten Jahrhunderts wurden hauptsächlich in amerikanischen und einigen britischen Arbeiten das Spektrum klinischer Befunde beschrieben und der Stellenwert der medizinischen Diagnostik als Teil einer obligat multiprofessionellen Herangehensweise etabliert (▸ Kap. 1).
