Abstract

Esophageal cancer is a highly malignant disease with a cure rate of less than 20%. Less than 40% of patients present with localized and resectable disease. Both surgery and combined chemoradiation therapy are important therapeutic modalities in curative treatment for esophageal cancer. Radiation therapy plays an important role in palliation of symptoms caused by advanced local or metastatic disease.
