Definition. Eine pathologische Erhöhung des Blutdruckwertes liegt vor, wenn der individuell gemessene Blutdruck über dem altersentsprechenden Normwert liegt (▸ Kap. 162). Die Blutdruckwerte schwanken innerhalb des Tages und der Nacht z. T. erheblich. Daher wird in indizierten Fällen häufig eine über 24 h kontinuierliche Blutdruckmessung zur Standardisierung herangezogen.
