Abstract

In this book we gave an overview of RFID in the manufacturing industry, based on six case studies involving small and midsize manufacturing companies. All companies are headquartered in Germany, but most of them have considerable export activities. Their sizes range between several hundred and 18,000 employees, and they typically occupy central positions in complex supply chains, acting as first- or second-tier suppliers to large OEMs, especially in the automotive industry. They typically have an advanced IT infrastructure organized around an ERP system and an MES.
