Im Vergleich zu Primärimplantationen ist nach der sog. „Schwedenstudie“ [6] seit einigen Jahren ein überproportionaler Anstieg von Revisionsoperationen am Hüftgelenk zu verzeichnen. Dabei beträgt das Verhältnis von Pfannenzu Schaftwechsel ca. 2:1, was vornehmlich mit dem stark gestiegenen Auftreten von sog. „Typ-III-Defekten“ nach Paprosky (24%) einhergeht [7].
