Abstract

The term retinitis strictly defines an inflammatory process of the retinal tissue without reference to its origin or its clinical characteristics. Classically, an area of retinitis appears as a whitish area within the retina (in contrast to choroidal lesions, which are more yellowish and seem to be located posterior to the retinal pigment epithelium), usually with diffuse borders and an elevated appearance in its acute stage (Fig. 46.1).
