Intraocular Inflammation

Abstract

Coccidioidomycosis, also known as coccidioidal granuloma, Posadas-Wernicke disease, San Joaquin Valley fever, and desert rheumatism, is a systemic mycosis caused by two species of Coccidioides: C. immitis and C. posadasii, fungi which are present in soil of the arid and semiarid regions of the American continent, occurring between the 40°N and 40°S parallels. C. immitis occurs in Southwestern United States, especially in California, and C. posadasii prevails in the other endemic areas of the United States, including Arizona, as well as in Central and in South America.
