Abstract

In support of the on-going research and development activity in the design and performance assessment of radio access network integration schemes, we present novel resource sharing models for the efficient simulation of multi-access networks involving gsm/edge, umts/hsdpa and 802.11a-based wlan systems. The applicability of the proposed models in determining call and system level performance measures is demonstrated by means of a limited set of illustrative numerical experiments revealing the significant performance gains when integrating distinct access networks with a rather simple radio access selection scheme.
