Abstract

Data volumes grow extremely fast. Storage capacity and cost can easily cope with that growth, but data access is critical. However, most information has a surprisingly short life cycle. This has a deep impact on data management systems and leads to a new storage architecture consisting of the two subsystems FileCache and FileStore with many advantageous properties w.r. to reliability, availability and cost. A multidimensional database of metadata is used to organize the data. This architecture is also suitable for complete multimedia biographies.
