Abstract

The relevance of indicators reflecting the patient’s view on outcomes of health care is increasingly recognized in clinical research and clinical practice. Explicit inclusion of the patient’s personal experience of health and disease and of the risks and benefits of medical interventions has now become an accepted perspective in evaluative studies, medical decision making and health policy [11]. In particular, measures of perceived health status and health-related quality of life have been included in a growing number of studies published in the medical literature [13].
