Soll das gesamte Bein anästhesiert werden, ist neben der Blockade von Ästen des Plexus lumbalis (insbesondere N. femoralis) eine Blockade des N. ischiadicus notwendig. Viele Zugänge zum N. ischiadicus sind beschrieben worden, folgend wird ein relativ einfacher Zugang behandelt, der sowohl für eine ultraschallgestützte als auch für eine konventionelle Blockade gut geeignet ist. Für diesen infraglutealen Zugang muss man sich im Vergleich zum transglutealen Zugang keine umständlichen Konstruktionszeichnungen merken und weniger Muskelmasse penetrieren. Entsprechend einfacher ist auch die Darstellung im Ultraschallbild zu realisieren.
