Abstract
Hydrostatics is concerned with the behavior of fluids at rest. The state of rest is kinematically the most restricted state and problems in hydrostatics are amo ng the simplest in fluid mechanics. We can obtain the laws of hydrostatics by se tting
into the balance laws. From mass conservation it then follows directly that
that is, the density must be constant in time, as is made particularly clear if we consider the integral form of mass conservation (2.7).
