Abstract

Von allen organischen Stoffen auf der Erde sind Kohlenhydrate nicht nur am weitesten verbreitet, sondern sie kommen auch in der größten Menge vor. Im Stoffwechsel von Tier und Pflanze nehmen sie eine zentrale Stellung ein. Auf der in Pflanzen ablaufenden Biosynthese von Kohlenhydraten aus Kohlendioxid und Wasser mit Hilfe der Lichtenergie, der Fotosynthese, beruht die Existenz aller anderen Organismen, die auf die Zufuhr organischer Substanz mit der Nahrung angewiesen sind.
