Abstract
Chapter 3 discusses the Create Read Update Delete (CRUD) functionality provided by Ruby on Rails. Rails generates the scaffolding for a CRUD application with the scaffold method and the scaffold generator. We shall create a database table in the MySQL database and also discuss configuring Rails with Oracle and SQL Server databases. Database tables are created and updated using migrations. Ajax may be added to the CRUD scaffolding with the Ajax scaffold generator. Rails also supports validation of input fields with Active record validations. We shall create a CRUD application to create, read, update and delete catalog entries.
