Part of the book series: Medical Radiology ((Med Radiol Diagn Imaging))

Abstract

In the last few years, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has been considered as a simultaneous disorder of both the cardio-vascular and the respiratory systems in which cardio-vascular comorbidities and non-fatal coronary events increase when respiratory function decreases. The main purposes of the following chapter will be to summarize the new concepts of COPD, its cardiac comorbidities and the new technological breakthrough allowing a common approach to CT and to analyze its related cardio-vascular disorders related to pulmonary hypertension, right cardiac cavities, left heart, coronary arteries and coincidental cardio-vascular diseases, having a potential impact on the COPD diagnosis or treatment.
