Abstract
In the field of Low dimensional Electronic Systems the instability of a one dimensional electronic system, the so-called Peierls effect, is studied for the compound KCP. A strong Kohn effect is observed in this case. An ultrasonic experiment in this compound is discussed.
For low dimensional spin systems many different effects occur: A magneto-elastic induced structural transition, called the Spin Peierls effect, spin dimerization effects, occurrence of magnetization plateaus, spin gaps for S=1 systems etc. With ultrasound many experiments were carried out in this field. The magneto-elastic interaction is very strong in some cases, leading to softening of the sound velocity.
