Abstract
This chapter discusses some of the challenges faced by modern academic departments and some of the ways to overcome those challenges, as well as the opportunities provided by modern technology, and ways to maximize their potential. Emphasis is placed on optimizing administration and resources to create a dynamic environment that fosters inquiry and original research and to produce academic surgical leaders in a constantly changing world.
