Großwuchs wie auch beschleunigtes Wachstum (erhöhte Wachstumsgeschwindigkeit) sind wesentlich seltener als Kleinwuchs oder verzögertes Wachstum (verminderte Wachstumsgeschwindigkeit). Der Großwuchs wird in der Gesellschaft viel eher akzeptiert. Diese Wachstumsform kann eine Normvariante, andererseits aber auch einen wichtigen diagnostischen Baustein für endokrine und nichtendokrine Störungen darstellen.
