Die Lyme-Arthritis (benannt nach dem Ort Lyme in Connecticut) wird durch das Spirochätenbakterium Borrelia burgdorferi ausgelöst, das durch Zeckenstiche übertragen wird. Die Zuordnung der Lyme-Arthritis zu den reaktiven Arthritiden ist nur begrenzt möglich, da das gute Ansprechen auf die antibiotische Therapie mehr dem Charakter einer Infektionskrankheit entspricht. Auf der anderen Seite lässt die beschriebene Assoziation der chronischen Arthritis mit HLA-DR2- und -DR4-Allelen immunologisch relevante HLA-restringierte Pathomechanismen vermuten.
