Abstract

11.1

Detailed description of diagnostic endoscopy of the colon and rectum. Indications, contraindications, patient preparation, complications and technique for flexible sigmoidoscopy. For diagnostic colonoscopy also description of premedication and sedation, special considerations and alternatives to colonoscopy. Therapeutic endoscopy with description of tools and technique of use, including polypectomy, injection needles, dye-spray, clipping devices, dilatation balloons and argon plasma coagulation. Section on the use of self-expanding metalstent, post-polypectomy surveillance and new techniques. Last a short summery and a list on suggested reading.
