Book cover Groups of Galaxies in the Nearby Universe

Part of the book series: ESO ASTROPHYSICS SYMPOSIA ((ESO))

Abstract

In this contribution I will provide a brief summary of the history of searches for, and surveys of, galaxy groups. This will be split up into two separate parts, searches with and without galaxy redshift measurements. I will conclude with a more detailed look at a recent result from the 2 degree Field Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGRS).
