Different techniques have been used to characterize the nonlinear optical constants of materials (e.g., the nonlinear refractive index, n2, and the two-photon absorption coefficient, β). In what follows, the relevant techniques used to obtain the nonlinear optical constants of chalcogenide glasses, fibers, and films are introduced in some detail.
