Abstract

Stress-strain relations for compressible and incompressible elastic solids under finite and small deformations are formulated in this section. Although elastic solid is the simplest type of a deformable solid, stress-strain relations and solutions of the problems for more complex types of solids are substantially based on the results for the elastic solids. For this reason elasticity theory occupies a significant place in solid mechanics.
