1944 lag die kleine Eileen tiefzyanotisch in einer Kinderklinik. Zu dieser Zeit waren die Kinder mit einem sog. blue-baby syndrome (meist einer Fallot-Tetralogie oder Pulmonalatresie) zum Tode verurteilt, denn außer der Behandlung im Sauerstoffzelt gab es keine Hilfe.
