Vitiligo and Immunodeficiencies

  • Chapter
Book cover Vitiligo

Core Messages

  • Combined or T-cell immunodeficiencies, inherited or acquired, are commonly associated with autoimmunity.

  • Vitiligo has been reported to be associated with cellular or combined immunodeficien-cies, suggesting a possible link to pathomech-anisms involved in common nonsegmental vitiligo.

  • Although there is some evidence that both cellular and humoral immunity can act together in vitiligo pathogenesis, the associations noted in this chapter suggest that cellular immunity is more implicated in disease causation or progression.
