Postoperative Care and Pain Management

  • Chapter
Book cover Spinal Disorders

Abstract

Despite advances in anesthesia care and surgical techniques, major surgery is still prone to undesirable consequences [6] such as:

  • infection

  • thromboembolic complications

  • cardiorespiratory morbidity

  • cerebral dysfunction

  • postoperative nausea and vomiting

  • gastrointestinal paralysis

  • pain

  • fatigue

  • prolonged convalescence
