Feedback influences everyone’s sense of whether they have been successful or not, and so influences how they will think and act in the future. In education, it is a critical component in how learners monitor and evaluate their own performance (Bransford et al. 2000). The absence of a clear program for assessing learner performance and providing feedback is a strong mark against any educational program (Quattlebaum 1996). Whether we realize it or not, feedback constitutes an important teaching strategy. Yet many radiologic educators do not employ feedback as effectively as they could, and some misuse it altogether. Improving the quality of feedback that learners receive is a crucial element in improving educational programs in radiology.
