Interdisciplinary Learning: A Stimulant for Reflective Practice

Such problems are encountered by professionals every day. One of the reasons that the problems often seem intractable is that we tend to try to solve them from the limitations of our own professional knowledge. Many of today’s professional and practical problems cannot be solved in isolation. Knowledge has become so specialized that we need alternative perspectives and we need to be able to listen to the expertise of others in order to sometimes even understand the nature of the problem. Interdisciplinary learning and teaching begins to orient teachers and learners to the complexity of the problems that we must face daily and calls for us to listen to the wisdom of the other as we interrogate our own certainties.
