Abstract
Progress in medical care has improved the prognosis for patients with head and spinal cord injuries (HSCI) [28]. However, the clinical outcome may be compromised by various complications: these patients are at risk for urinary tract infections, thrombo-embolism, respiratory diseases and especially for the production of heterotopic bone or heterotopic ossification (HO), in the neighborhood of joints, preferentially the hips [27, 50, 54] (Table 20.1).
