Die ungünstige Prognose insbesondere des fortgeschrittenen Ovarialkarzinoms trotz therapeutischer Standardisierung und Entwicklungen der operativen und systemischen Therapie erfordert weitere forschende Aktivitäten. Nationale und internationale Kooperationen wurden in den letzten Jahren mit dem Ziel aufgebaut, klinische Studien zu initiieren, in angemessenen Zeiträumen die Rekrutierung von Patientinnen zu komplettieren und so in aktuellen Zeitfenstern relevante Ergebnisse zu erzielen, die Einfluss auf die Fortentwicklung von Therapiestandards nehmen können, sei es, diese zu bestätigen oder zu ändern. Außerdem gibt es deutliche Hinweise, dass an klinischen Studien teilnehmende Zentren zum Nutzen der Patientinnen bestehende Therapie empfehlungen stringenter umsetzen und so zur bestmöglichen Therapiequalität beitragen.
