Zusammenfassung

Die Zahl an Patienten mit demenziellen Syndromen wird in Zukunft aufgrund des soziodemographischen Wandels unserer alternden Gesellschaft deutlich zunehmen. Demenzen sind gekennzeichnet durch Störungen des Gedächtnisses, der Orientierung und weiterer kognitiver Funktionen aber auch durch Verhaltens-, Persönlichkeits- und Affektstörungen, wobei die Demenz vom «ormalen Alterungsprozess» basieren auf dem Muster der kognitiven Defizite, ohne die Konnotation einer bestimmten Prognose.

Die häufigste Demenzform ist die der Alzheimer-Demenz (Demenz vom Alzheimer-Typ, DAT) mit rund zwei Dritteln aller Demenzen, gefolgt von vaskulären Formen. Im Folgenden soll daher hauptsächlich auf die DAT fokussiert werden, hierzu liegen auch mehrere fMRT-Studien vor.
