Abstract

The usual expectation is that the spatial correlation of Ly-α clouds should be comparable to the correlation of galaxies. This is based on the assumption that the spatial separation of clouds is much greater then their size. Observations of the lensed QSOs and close pairs indicate this may not be the case. We show there are several factors diminishing the spatial correlation of clouds, namely: nonnegligible size to separation ratio, redshift evolution and mixing in the same catalog objects located at a very wide range of redshift. The implication for the observing strategy is discussed.
