Abstract

One may identify at least four different ways in which pov measures enter the arena of quantum physical investigations. First, they are an integral part of the probabilistic structure of quantum mechanics. Second, they arise in a natural way in the theoretical description of many experiments. Furthermore, some of the longstanding conceptual problems of quantum mechanics appear in an entirely new light if reformulated in terms of pov measures. Finally, thinking of observables as pov measures leads one to envisage new perspectives that could not have been seen in a frame based on ordinary observables only.
