Abstract

In the light of recent observations of gamma-ray lines of carbon and oxygen originating from the Orion nebula, we propose that fast nuclei accelerated by type II supernovæ embedded in giant molecular clouds interact with the ambient medium to produce copious amounts of light elements. Thus, they offer a new mechanism of LiBeB production which has the advantage of being metallicity independent (i.e. “primary”). Our aim is to study its effect on the evolution of these species in the Galaxy. Galactic evolution will be described in a companion paper presented at the Gran—Sasso conference (Nuclei in the Cosmos). In this article we concentrate on production rates.
