Abstract
Among the stability problems for thin-walled elastic shells, the stability problems for cylindrical shells are of most practical importance. Moreover, it is possible to use the cylindrical-shell stability analysis for clarification of the peculiarities of stability problems for thin-walled shells of arbitrary shape (Bushnell (1981)). For this reason, in this chapter, we shall present the foundations of the stability theory of thin-walled elastic shells as applied to the stability problems for circular cylindrical shells.
