Abstract
Operation of a resonant photoacoustic cell inside the cavity of a HeNe laser is described and the pressure dependence of the photoacoustic signal is investigated. Three basic types of behaviour are observed for weak, medium and strong absorbers. A quantitative description of the signal is possible up to medium losses. Laser behaviour near threshold is investigated for the first time using photoacoustic resonance spectroscopy.
