Abstract

In the paper “Future Applications of Selective Laser Photophysics and Photochemistry” presented at the previous conference “Tunable Lasers and Applications” held in Scandinavia (Loen, Norway, 1976), one of us discussed, among other possibilities, prospects of applying laser resonance multistep ionization to detect selectively single nuclei, atoms, molecules, and molecular bonds [1]. Now, more than ten years later, it is only natural to demonstrate how much this forecast has proved to be correct, if only for rare atoms and isotopes.
