Laser and Fourier Transform Techniques for the Measurement of Atomic Transition Probabilities

  • Chapter
Lasers, Spectroscopy and New Ideas

Part of the book series: Springer Series in Optical Sciences ((SSOS,volume 54))

Abstract

Radiative lifetimes for many atoms and ions are determined using time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence on slow atomic and ionic beams. These lifetimes are combined with precise branching ratios measured using a Fourier transform spectrometer to determine accurate absolute atomic transition probabilities for the elements in low stages of ionization.
