Abstract

Since the first discovery of the laser effect in FA(II) colour centres of a KC1:Li crystal /1/ and since the first development of a tunable CW colour centre laser /2/, these sources have been the subject of intense investigation to improve their performances. Different crystals, various types of colour centres and different optical configurations have been studied with the purpose of extending the spectral coverage and increasing the operation reliability. Recently, in our laboratories, a new method has been designed to increase the efficiency of the coupling between the pump laser and the active medium /3/.
