Abstract
In this chapter we discuss the mechanisms of recording and readout of images from photorefractive Spatial Light Modulators (SLMs) and consider the factors determing their parameters. Many of the conclusions here are applicable to SLMs using electro-optic crystals that do not exhibit the photorefractive effect. Such modulators include the Titus, Phototitus, and the microchannel SLM.
