Das Immunsystem besteht aus verschiedenen Zellpopulationen, die sich aus einer gemeinsamen Stammzelle entwickeln. Im Blut eines Säugers findet man die Vertreter sämtlicher Populationen in Gestalt der weißen Blutkörperchen (Leukozyten).
