Die Gattung Haemophilus (hämophile Bakterien) umfasst fakultativ anaerobe, kapnophile, zarte gram-negative Stäbchenbakterien. Charakteristisch ist der Bedarf an Wachstumsfaktoren X = Hämin, V = NAD (Nikotin-Adenin-Dinukleotid)bzw.NADP(NAD-Phosphat)(⊡ Tab.34.1). Beide Faktoren sind in Erythrozyten, aber auch in anderen Zellen vorhanden und können z. B. durch Erhitzen von Blut frei gesetzt werden (“Kochblutagar„).
