Summary
This paper addresses the challenges which modern societies and especially Europe are facing in particular those for industry and consequently the role of research and technological development — short R&TD. Subsequently the role, the structure and the content of the effort in technology acquisition by the research framework programmes of the European Union will be highlighted. A special emphasis will be on the industrial technology acquisition using the example of the transport related research within the key action Land Transport and Marine Technology of the specific technology programme “Promoting Competitive and Sustainable Growth”.
