Abstract

The article describes a project with the aim to develop the core for a distributed accessible digital archive for all Russian publications in mathematics. Russian mathematics had obtained a high world-wide reputation for quite a long period. Having the Russian mathematical publications available in digital form will provide an important contribution to the world wide initiative to establish the Digital Mathematics Library DML. The article addresses the main features of the project like the professional structure for the digitization process, collaborative structures for caring about the preparation of the bilingual metadata, international cooperation for caring about the input and providing a system of mirrors of the archive with several access possibilities. The description goes along a combined project proposal submitted to funding agencies in Russia and Germany. Many tools developed for the project will play a pioneering role and can be used for digitization activities in other fields
