Dark Matter in Spiral Galaxies

  • Albert Bosma
Part of the Lecture Notes in Physics book series (LNP, volume 626)

In this talk I will discuss several issues concerning the dark matter problem in spiral galaxies. I will give first my version of the state of the debate about cuspy halos in low surface brightness galaxies, and then discuss the situation in bright spirals. I conclude that the dark matter profiles of low surface brightness late-type galaxies do not show much evidence for cuspy halos with NFW type profiles, and that the inner parts of high surface brightness spirals are unlikely to be dominated by dark matter.
