Abstract

Statistical aspects of energy-loss straggling have been considered in Ch. 12. The present chapter is devoted to atomistic aspects, i.e., the contributions of various stopping processes to straggling and appropriate input into numerical evaluations. Attention will be paid primarily to the straggling parameter \(W=\int w^2 d\sigma(w)\) for a frozen charge and the evaluation of the variance \(\Omega^2\). Results will also be reported on predicted energy-loss spectra mainly for thin targets. ...
