Abstract
Photonic A/D conversion brings the potential advantages of photonics technology to the application of A/D conversion. Ultra-fast optical nonlinearities and high-speed optical sampling provide some of the key building blocks necessary to achieve high-speed and high-resolution A/D conversion. In an effort to achieve higher performance A/D conversion, there have been a number of applications of photonic technologies to the problem of A/D conversion. In this chapter, we provide an overview of some early applications and several recent extensions of these early approaches of photonics technology to A/D conversion.
