Compliance with the Hyperlipidaemia Consensus: Clinicians versus the Computer

Abstract

The hyperlipidaemia consensus was designed to providetreatment recommendations for patients suffering from increased blood lipoprotein levels. To allow for studying compliance with the consensus, we constructed a classification tree having the same functionality. Given the medical records of 1328 patients, we compared the treatment recommendations from a multidisciplinary team of clinicians against the thus automated consensus. The compliance study revealed various discrepancies between the consensus and the clinicians, some of which could be attributed to possible inaccuracies in the consensus.
