Abstract
We report on progress made in the modeling of thermal effects in zig-zag slab geometry solid state lasers. A numerical model has been completed and verified. An analytic model exists which is adequate in many simple cases. These models predict that a laser using a slab of square cross-section could have low thermal focusing and birefringence.
