Abstract
The goal of multiple semiconductor lasers being integrated onto a single semiconductor chip has recently been realized both in the research lab1 and in the commercial arena.2 These laser arrays, because of their high optical power density, high efficiency, small size, long life and emission wavelength (which can be made to match the absorption band of Nd:YAG lasers) may offer an attractive alternative to conventional lamp pumped solid state lasers.
